Douglas County Schools are in Trouble!

Douglas County Schools are in Trouble!Douglas County Schools are in Trouble!Douglas County Schools are in Trouble!

We need a new school board to:

  •  Stop the Decline in Academics
  •  End the Progressive "Woke" agenda
  •  Provide Full Transparency

Our Schools should reflect the values of our Community

Douglas County is a conservative, rural, county and our schools should reflect our values. As a 30+ year teacher, I am shocked at the implementation of the progressive "woke" agenda in our schools that have significantly contributed to the decline in academic scores in Douglas County schools.

Why I Am Running for School Board

Additional Information

I have 30+ years of experience as a public school teacher both in Florida and in Sacramento, CA.  I know what works in the classroom to maximize academic achievement and minimize discipline issues.

I have attended every Douglas County Board Meeting since January of 2022 and I can tell you, without a doubt, that the reason for the decline in academic scores within the district are the result of this current Board's focus on social engineering and the implementation of the progressive "woke" agenda.  There is no transparency from the Superintendent or the Board on the curriculum, test scores or disciplinary data.

Ten years ago, Douglas County was the top performing school district in Nevada. Our math and English scores were in the 80th percentile. But by 2019, our math scores declined to the 44th percentile and our English scores dropped to the 55th percentile. What happened??  In 2010, the State of Nevada adopted the Nevada Core Curriculum and subsequently adopted a multitude of progressive "woke" pseudo-scientific teaching methodologies, like Social Emotional Learning (SEL) , Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Restorative Justice . And every year,  our academic scores have declined.  These teaching methodologies have taken teachers away from their core function of "teaching" and made them data driven secretaries, requiring them to spend hundreds of hours every academic year documenting minute details on every student. None of this has had any positive affect on student learning or preparation for college.

My Platform

Refocus on Academic Achievement

  • Test our students twice a year and post the results on DCSD website
  • Compare the test results with other school districts in Nevada and nationwide

End the Progressive "Woke" Agenda

  • Eliminate Critical Race theory from the curriculum and from any professional development curriculum for teachers.
  • Adopt an anti-discrimination Board resolution like Lyon County that prohibits race-based discriminatory teaching.
  • End Social Emotion Learning as a teaching methodology
  • End the implementation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) program.

Support our Teachers

  •  Free our teachers from the insane documentation burden that is taking them away from their core academic teaching time.
  • Support our teachers with pay raises and merit pay bonuses
  • Advocate for a restructure of their retirement benefits so benefits start to accrue immediately
  • Eliminate the  coercion of the Teaches Union on our teachers.

Stop Sexualizing our Children

  • Stop the promotion of LGBTQ lifestyles in all grade levels
  • Stop the gender confusion of young children. End the practice of asking them what pronouns they identify with
  • End the practice of encouraging middle school and high school students to adopt an alternate animal identity and dressing in costume during the school day. These "Furries" are  a huge distraction to the rest of the students and this practice is gender manipulation and child abuse currently supported by the Board and Superintendent.

Full Transparency

  • Full transparency on the DCSD website of curriculum. Each teacher to post a syllabus of their class including a complete reading list.
  • Publish all the test scores on the website twice a year and compare them with last years results, with other districts in Nevada and with other districts throughout the country.

Zero Tolerance for Violence

  • Violence and bullying has no place in Douglas County schools.  All students need to understand that there will be severe consequences for acts of violence and bullying.
  • I advocate for a Step 1 immediate action plan on incidence of violence or bullying where the parents are called and they and the student must submit to an in-person meeting with the school superintendent. Repeat offenders will be remove from the school.
  • We will not risk every child's education by accommodating disruptive, malcontent children.
