Douglas County Schools are in Trouble!
We need a new school board to:
- Stop the Decline in Academics
- End the Progressive "Woke" agenda
- Provide Full Transparency
We need a new school board to:
Douglas County is a conservative, rural, county and our schools should reflect our values. As a 30+ year teacher, I am shocked at the implementation of the progressive "woke" agenda in our schools that have significantly contributed to the decline in academic scores in Douglas County schools.
I have 30+ years of experience as a public school teacher both in Florida and in Sacramento, CA. I know what works in the classroom to maximize academic achievement and minimize discipline issues.
I have attended every Douglas County Board Meeting since January of 2022 and I can tell you, without a doubt, that the reason for the decline in academic scores within the district are the result of this current Board's focus on social engineering and the implementation of the progressive "woke" agenda. There is no transparency from the Superintendent or the Board on the curriculum, test scores or disciplinary data.
Ten years ago, Douglas County was the top performing school district in Nevada. Our math and English scores were in the 80th percentile. But by 2019, our math scores declined to the 44th percentile and our English scores dropped to the 55th percentile. What happened?? In 2010, the State of Nevada adopted the Nevada Core Curriculum and subsequently adopted a multitude of progressive "woke" pseudo-scientific teaching methodologies, like Social Emotional Learning (SEL) , Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Restorative Justice . And every year, our academic scores have declined. These teaching methodologies have taken teachers away from their core function of "teaching" and made them data driven secretaries, requiring them to spend hundreds of hours every academic year documenting minute details on every student. None of this has had any positive affect on student learning or preparation for college.
